FINDING OPEN SPACE
Tactical Problem: Getting into a position to receive ball when being defended.
Skill development: Off the ball movement - Getting open.

Teaching Points: For thrower and receiver

Tactic

  • Throw the ball where defender can't reach it.
  • Anticipate where defender & receiver will run.
  • Move away from defender (receiver).
  • Fake out the defender (passer).
Skill
  • Throw ball with accuracy & proper speed.
  • Point front foot in direction of intended throw
  • Fake a pass one direction, then quickly throw the ball in another direction; fake out defender and successfully pass to offender.
  • Proper positioning to receive & send pass.

 

 
Organizational Points: 
  • Start big area to maximize success passer and receiver success.
  • No throws over head height.
  • Switch person in the middle after incomplete pass or 5 successful passes in a row.
Extensions:
  • Reduce playing size to put more pressure on the passer to make a successful throw.
